WOW – Intro to Currents Course
Learn how to safely play in and around moving water
During this course at Skookumchuck Narrows, you will have the opportunity to paddle in gentle currents and progress to more dynamic waters, should you be ready and comfortable.
You will learn how to identify the main features and hazards of currents, practise foundational manoeuvring skills and apply them to the moving water environment.
We will introduce you to the basics of surfing and have many opportunities for rolling practise and exciting rescues!
We will be following a gentle progression, making sure paddlers feel physically and emotionally safe and ready for the next challenge.
Participants will be joined by instructors Vanessa Iverson and Danielle Cullen with a 2:6 ratio.

Who should enroll on this course
We ask that paddlers have a solid foundation in boat handling basics and assisted rescues, as well as, have been introduced to edging, bracing and rolling (successful role not required).
This programme is offered to women, women-identifying individuals, non-binary and gender non-conforming people who are comfortable in a space that centers the experiences of women in the outdoors. We recognize and acknowledge the intersection of gender identities and it is our hope that we can provide programming that is inclusive and accessible.

$25 non-refundable registration fee (per person per lesson). 14 days notice before first day of your lesson is required to reschedule or to cancel for a refund (not including the non-refundable $25 registration fee)
July 12th – July 15th
Meeting time will be at 7pm on Friday 12th July at the Strongwater Campground, Egmont, Sunshine Coast. After three days, the course will then wrap up at 4:30pm on Monday 15th July in Egmont.

What to Bring
You will need a sea worthy kayak and all necessary safety equipment. As well as appropriate paddling attire, immersion gear and footwear.*
Ferry: Please book a ferry reservation ahead of time if possible. The ferry is 45 minutes and we suggest allowing yourself almost 2hrs to drive from Langdale to Egmont. Any ferry before 4pm would give you ample time.
Camping: We will be camping at the Strongwater Campground in Egmont. The campground offers tenting and cabin options. Please book your own accommodations, you may let them know you are there for a Deep Cove kayaking course. Strongwater Campground website.
