Multiple Paddling Disciplines. Fun Multiplied!

This camp is an all-new format where your child will learn three fun and exciting ways to travel on the ocean. This camp is a combination of Kayaking, Stand-Up Paddleboarding and Surfski Paddling. All three disciplines compliment each other and will help build confidence towards becoming an “Ocean Master”!

Skills Developed:

Learn how to paddle and manoeuvre all three craft
Develop leadership and decision-making skills
Play games that will develop your skills
Deepen your appreciation for the Ocean and its conservation
Learn about weather, tides and currents

What to bring on a Lesson

Our best advice is to dress for the weather!

Recommended:
- Comfortable non-cotton base layer
- Waterproof pants & jackets are highly recommended
- secure wet footwear, if you don’t have booties or watershoes then wear something like running shoes that you don’t mind getting wet - no flip flops or open-toed sandals please.
- A non-cotton toque if it’s chilly, or brimmed hat if it’s sunny
- Sunscreen
- Sunglasses with a strap. If you wear prescription glasses we also recommend using a strap.
- Insulating long sleeved non-cotton top and bottoms which will keep you warm even if they get wet
- Water bottle (ideally with carabiner)
- Towel & bathing suit for under a wetsuit (wetsuit provided for lessons with planned capsizing)
- Warm change of clothes for after your paddle
- Snacks or lunch for all-day lessons

Please be aware that we have limited space at our shop. Please leave valuables at home or in your vehicle, or bring along a dry-bag. We are able to store smaller items like phones, keys, wallets in office if needed.

Where do I park?

Groups bringing large buses (important info):
If your bus has a GVW of over 8,850kg, it will need a permit to enter Deep Cove, which can be obtained by clicking here “DNV approved Deep Cove Kayak Group” must be selected when applying for the permit. The permit is FREE OF CHARGE. A map with the designated drop off and pick up zones as well as bus route will be provided to you with your permit - Don’t worry the process is super easy, and if you have any questions you can contact the District Of North Vancouver Engineering Department on 604 990 2370.

When should we arrive?

We reccomend arriving to our Shop and checking in with your waivers/consent forms about 15 minutes before your program start time. Our guides and instructors will be starting your safety briefing and paddling introduction at your "activity start time". If you are late, we will not be able to extend your activity time as this can impact all future bookings for the day.

What is the cancellation/rescheduling policy for group tours and lessons?

We require 2 week's notice to cancel a program and refund your deposit. We require 1 week's notice to reschedule your activity to another date or time.

What if it rains?

All of our programs run rain or shine. We especially like the rain here as the water tends to be calm and more tranquil, you also tend to see a lot of seals! You can also check out our retail location Coast Outdoors, the paddling experts at the store can help deck you out in some fantastic paddling gear that will help keep you dry and warm when you are on the water. If the weather is dangerous to kayak in e.g strong winds or thunder and lightning, then we will reach out to you to discuss resheduling and refund options.

What is the Waiver Policy?

Adults
Any adults 19 years old and over must complete a Deep Cove Kayak Waiver Form prior to participating in any progams with us.

Youths
Anyone under the age of 19 years old must have a Deep Cove Kayak informed consent form signed by a parent or legal guardian prior to participating in any progams with us. If anyone under the age of 19 arrives without a completed inform consent form, they will not be permitted on the water.

Can you store my valuables while we are out on the water?

Our kayak guides and instructors will collect any small valuables from you such as wallets, keys and phones, and store them in our back office while you are paddling. Any larger items like bags, shoes, towels etc may be stored in the public open cubbies by our shop.
